You know the Goa feeling? The raw, earthy vibe! Sea breeze! Sunny days and beezy evenings! And beach shacks. This post is about one lovely place I found, a place that screams GOAAAA!!! But it isn't a beach shack - it's a little restaurant in Siolim, on the lane right opposite the Siolim church - Hillbelly!
When I say little, it's actually little, but the vibe is awesome and the no-nonsense menu is kind of impressive. The place is open for lunch and dinner, and has some cool evenings happening - noted one's would be Prohibition Thursdays!
I landed here on a Sunday evening for a quick byte on my way back from Vagator. Absolutely loved the decor and the ambience. The friendly staff, quick service and delicious food will definitely take me there again. They have a fully stocked bar, like most places in Goa, serving some good cocktails and drinks.
The food menu is limited - but impressive. It's just two pages, but includes starters, soups, salads, sandwiches, mains and desserts in vegetarian and non-vegetarian. They serve pork, beef and duck (on availability) as well, besides chicken and seafood.
I'd definitely want to try all the items at Hillbelly one by one. For this visit, we limited our nibbles to Prawn Tempura and BBQ Pork Chops as we sipped on lemonade as the candlelight kept flickering. The Prawn Tempura was crispy, the prawns fresh. Overall well done!
The BBQ Pork Chops served with mashed potato were among the best I've had. The quantity however is as limited as the menu. We realised only when the food arrived that it was very little for our appetites. But we dropped the idea of ordering more since we were getting late! More food needs to wait, until next time...
