Makeup workshop by Hairspray & the Artist

I always wish for flawless skin, but my skin is no where close to it. I don't remember having great skin in the longest time and the only option I'm left with is makeup. I know, it's not a great thing to do, but it's better to try and look presentable instead of going out of the house looking like a mess. Secondly, even though I heavily rely on makeup, I'm never close to mastering the art. This weekend kind of helped me unveil new horizons in the world of makeup!

What am I talking about? I'm going to tell you about a fun makeup workshop I attended on Sunday morning. The awesome Hairspray & the Artist invited a couple of us to her studio and decided to share some of her makeup knowledge with us. Mansi Mulherkar, the pretty lady behind Hairspray & the Artist sure has a great deal of expertise having been an alumnus of Fat Mu Makeup Academy, Mumbai and a former creative stylist at Bina Punjani Salons & Academy, Miramar Goa. That's where I met Mansi the first time a couple of years back. And over the years she's moved on to start her own venture Hairspray & the Artist where she acts as the creative head for all her hair and beauty projects.

Following her on Instagram and Facebook sure keeps me updated about all her cool makeup and hair experiments on herself and her clients. If I need to know 'what's in' in makeup or hair, I just have to check her social media handles once. She's extremely pretty (mind it, I don't say it to a lot of women), doesn't need makeup at all, but she uses her skills to make everyone look pretty. You should see her brides on their wedding day - looking ravishing or the models she styles for editorial shoots!

So I was more than happy to attend her workshop when she invited me to her studio. She's neatly done her studio with lovely furniture (I loved the white table which she apparently got from Pepperfry) and stocked with equipment she needs. Her dresser is stocked with makeup to match all skin tones and types. The pretty things she's kept around and the beautiful wall hangings completes her brightly lit little studio. If you're lucky, one of the pretty Persian cats will drop by to say hi (read: mew)
She began the makeup workshop with basics - the must-have brushes. She explained what brushes one needs in their kit, what they are called and what they are used for. She further explained how to pick the right makeup to suit ones skin tone, the tone of foundations, concealor and corrector used, application, techniques, etc. She taught us basics of contouring, eye makeup and blusher techniques for a day look. She further went on to teach how to take a day look to a night look by adding a bit of drama to the eyes and/or lips. She emphasised on the importance of getting the eye brows on point and made us realise how much of a difference makeup actually makes to ones face. Overall, it was a fruitful and fun session with an amazing bunch of girls! These skills and hacks are sure going to help me in some way in the near future. Thank you Hairspray & the Artist for this amazing session.
