More Ink: Second tattoo preview and symbolism

Hey guys

I am so excited to tell you about the new tattoo I got yesterday. This is my second tattoo. I have another post about my first tattoo. If you haven't seen that, go see it here before you read ahead. I got my second tattoo from the same tattoo studio - Tribal Tattoo Studio and requested for the same tattoo artist - Monish. He is so talented, it amazes me. The first tattoo was so neat and tidy. So I wanted only him to do the next one as well. And he did an exceptionally good job with this one as well.

I decided to get my second tattoo on the back of my neck and shoulder. I had contemplated for a long time about what I would want my next tattoo to be like. I was pretty confused between a Dreamcatcher and other travel tattoos like Anchor, Compass, etc. And finally I got a tattoo which is an amalgamation of a Dreamcatcher and a Compass. These are two tattoos that have tremendous symbolisms and deep meaning besides it's visual appeal. And that is what prompted me to get them. Also, I am at a stage in life where I am just done with college, and do not know what next. So well, I needed this inspiration right now. I shall just briefly explain what each one means and you will know why I decided on this design.

A compass is an instrument which has been used for guiding travelers, explorers, space adventurers and sailors, since times immemorial. It has been of great help to them for guiding them safely towards their destinations with the right idea regarding the directions. The compass tattoo has two symbolisms. The tattoo is meant for people who are feeling lost in life and are looking for the right direction, for which the compass tattoo can serve them as an object of inspiration. Compass tattoos have also represented the ideal of following one’s dreams. It is symbolic of staying your course in life and to not give up no matter how rough things may seem. The compass will guide you where you need to be. Overall, this type of tattoo conveys guidance and direction. Exactly, what I needed eh? Going out and chasing my dreams isn't going to be all that easy.

To add to the design aspect of it, I added the woven net and a feather from the dreamcatcher which again has deep meaning. Being a handicrafts lover that I am, dreamcatchers have always been fascinating. I also really liked the concept and symbolism. The dreamcatcher is a woven net or web that has certain adornments, such as beads, shells, gemstones, leather, feathers and the like. It is typically hung in a bedroom, above a bed, or sometimes above a door. The idea is that happy, optimistic dreams will pass through the net, while the negative dreams or nightmares will become ensnared, so the dreamers has only good dreams. The tattoo signifies that harmful dreams are chased away and positive dreams will stay, bring protection to the one who wears the ink. In more realistic sense, the tattoo fights away bad things like scandals while letting the good, such as happiness, pass through.

Please do not ask for photos as yet. They will gross you out. It is still swollen and has blood stains. I shall show you photos once it is healed. Till then, stay tuned! And follow me on FACEBOOK  INSTAGRAM  TWITTER  ROPOSO ZOMATO
