Weekends call for brunching with the Goan buddies in Mangalore. So we – David Johann Sunny and I - walked into this rustic cafe right next to college. Brio Cafe & Grill, set up just a couple of months back had been on my foodtrail. And today was the day. When we went there at around noon, it was rather empty and began buzzing with crowd only after 1 p.m. So we got a good hour to enjoy!
Brio Cafe & Grill is a western style lounge set up right next to St. Aloysius College, Lighthouse, Mangalore. The interiors are made up of brick walls with crafts and paintings hanging on it. There are wooden tables, high chairs and couches with incandescent lights hanging in caskets overhead. There is also great music playing which adds to the laid-back, rustic industrial vibe.
Brio Cafe & Grill has a global menu with a plethora of fancy yet decently priced food. They also have a selection of mocktails, milkshakes and desserts to offer. Brio Cafe & Grill has an assorted array of weekly special items. Here is what I tried and loved at Brio Cafe & Grill.
I began with Fish and Chips. Four succulent fish nuggets, nicely cooked – juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside – were served with ketchup and fries. Next on the list were the Grilled Lamb Sandwich and Lamb Burger. Both were served with tartar sauce and fries. The sandwich was grilled just right with seasoned lamb, mayo and sweet cucumber. The burger made of the delectable lamb cutlet was loaded with cheese and mayo. The tartar sauce wasn’t as great as expected. I loved the fries. Crispy and tasty!
Last on the list was Alfredo Penne Pasta in White Sauce. Bits of Chicken and Penne tossed in creamy cheese sauce and topped with olives and herbs. Being a cupcake lover, I had a Red Velvet cupcake which wasn’t really great. The rest of the food I ordered was good. Service is a bit slow, but probably since they are new. But the ambiance and the food covers it up. Brio Cafe & Grill is a great place to hang out with friends, go on a date or just chill out in the evenings. Recommended! Happy eating!
